Jewelry Care & Repair Policy

Jewelry Care

General Care

Protect your jewelry by removing it when washing your hands, swimming, exercising, cleaning and before applying any kind of personal body product. Maintain your jewelry’s shine by avoiding contact with agents such as soaps, perfume, lotion, makeup, hair & cleaning products, etc. Always wear your rubber or metal safety backs with your earrings to prevent loss.

The Theodosia jewelry pouch doubles as a safe haven for your jewelry’s storage and a polishing cloth to keep it looking bright and shiny.

Gold Filled and Natural Stone Jewelry Care

Natural Gemstones are delicate and may be damaged if not handled with care. Stones are fragile and can break, crack, discolor, or scratch if not handled with care. Avoid extreme heat.

Remove jewelry when washing your body, swimming, exercising, or cleaning. Avoid contact with soaps, perfume, lotion, makeup, hair, and cleaning products.

What is Gold Fill Jewelry?

"Gold Fill" means that the metal is 1/20th or 5% gold by volume, instead of 100% solid gold. Gold-filled metal is made by heat-and-pressure bonding a thin layer of karat gold to a brass (or another core metal) core.  Because the gold is mechanically bonded to the base metal, it cannot rub off (unlike gold-plated jewelry).

Gold fill is your best alternative to solid gold because of its durability and quality. Gold fill will not turn your skin green and does not rust. With minimal care, gold fill metal will not tarnish. A small amount of pre-caution and cleaning leads to a long life for gold fill jewelry.  Also, it is hypoallergenic and very rarely irritates sensitive skin.

Your Theodosia Jewelry pouch will protect your pieces. We recommend using the pouch to store your jewelry. To clean, rub your jewelry gently in one direction with a polishing cloth. Do not use products like tissue paper or paper towels, as they can cause scratching.

Hand Knotted Jewelry Care

Silk cord is a natural fiber that is traditionally used by jewelers when stringing pearls and gemstones due to the beautiful way it drapes when worn. To preserve your hand knotted necklace, store flat in a dry location and clean stones with a soft cloth. If the necklace becomes wet, please lay flat and allow to thoroughly dry. The cord will stretch when wet, so please keep dry, and store flat separately from other pieces to prevent stretching or tangling.

A fee will be charged to re-knot a damaged necklace. Email for a quote.

Fine Jewelry Care

Wash your Theodosia Fine Jewelry with gentle soap, rinse well and dry completely with a soft cloth. Using jewelry dips or polishes is not recommended as they may contain harsh abrasives. Maintain your jewelry’s shine by avoiding contact with agents such as perfume, lotion, makeup, hair & cleaning products. Always remove your jewelry before swimming and exercising. Store your Theodosia Fine Jewelry in its pouch or lined box for safe keeping.
